MATERIAL FOCUS

Material regeneration has been at the centre of the MARIAZ design process. The brand has been working towards the recovery of emerald by-products: the leftover grit produced through emerald mining. This material was first identified and developed during Maria Zambrano’s studies at Central Saint Martins and remains in continuous development.

The process seeks to maximise the use of this precious stone by reconstituting its found fragments and reconnecting them to their origins through material-led making techniques. MARIAZ’s signature Emerald Mist has become a key element in learning to appreciate the beauty of materials from different angles. It has informed the designer’s making process through ongoing exploration and experimentation, becoming a driving force within MARIAZ’s circular design and resource-efficiency framework.

PHILOSOPHY

MARIAZ is driven by circular design, proposing a jewellery format that is sustainable in itself by being modular and reusable, and by committing to material regeneration. This approach is seasonless, timeless, and inclusive, creating objects that can be continually reinvented and passed down from generation to generation.

The intention is to build towards reusable design by maximising the potential of each component, ensuring that materials and pieces remain in circulation in their most valuable form for as long as possible. MARIAZ uses recycled materials and has an on-demand manufacturing system to avoid unnecessary production.
