PHILOSOPHY

MARIAZ is driven by circular design and proposes a jewellery format that is sustainable in itself by being modular, by encouraging reusability and by contributing to material regeneration.

This approach to design is seasonless, timeless and inclusive and aims to create objects that can be continually reinvented and passed down from generation to generation.

The aim is to build towards reusable design by maximising the use of each of the components to ensure they are circulated in their most valuable form for as long as possible.

The practice uses carefully sourced materials and has an on-demand manufacturing system to avoid unnecessary production.

packaging is also durable and reusable.

MATERIAL FOCUS

Material regenerationhas been at the centre of the design process. Mariaz has been working towards the recovering of emerald by-products; the left over grit resulting from emerald mining, a material identified and developed during studies at Central Saint Martins and currently in continuous development. The process contributes in maximising the use of this precious rock by reconstituting its found fragments and resembling its origins through making techniques.

Mariaz’s Emerald Mist has been a key element to learn and appreciate the beauty of materials from different angles, it has also informed the designer's making process through different journeys of exploration and experimentation and has been a driving force in her thinking towards circular design and resource efficiency.
